Making Mobiles Love Notes

I am so proud of my first group of students!

These were first posted in our Making Mobiles Facebook group but they are so inspiring I thought I’d share some here!
Thank you ladies, for your kind words!

I’ve always loved mobiles, but I didn’t really understand them and was pretty sure I couldn’t pull off making one. Maggie’s course promises step- by-step instructions with videos, and it truly delivers, with clear and thorough info. The show-and-tell style videos are perfect: well-organized and paced, with easy to find info I used again and again.

I was attracted by Maggie’s promise of availability to answer questions (she means it!) and by lifetime access to the information, in case I became frustrated or busy or my follow-through wasn’t great. The fact that Maggie’s own work is gorgeous was also a draw.

In just a few weeks I’ve now made 4 mobiles in widely varying styles. I’m really pleased by how they’ve come out and will continue to make them. I find the process both fun and meditative, and I love it. If I can become a maker of mobiles by taking Maggie’s class, believe me, you can too. My only request of Maggie Bergman now is … More art classes please Maggie, more! I’ll be the first to sign up.

I love making beautiful papers but my addiction was quickly getting out of hand. I had drawers full of papers and wanted to use them for something different from my usual background art.
That is when I discovered Maggie Bergman's beautiful and mesmerizing mobiles. I was over the moon happy when I found out Maggie offered an online class teaching creatives how to make them! Purchasing the class was so easy and I had instant access to wonderful video instruction demonstrating every step of the process.

Maggie demonstrates everything I needed to know -- from the type of papers that work best, glue techniques, wire bending and, or course, assembling the blades for balance and beauty. (She even includes a special video lesson on making your own papers FAST -- if you don't have your own stockpile sitting around).

I had so much fun that within just a couple of days of downloading the course, I completed construction of my first mobile. The template printouts included with the course were so helpful in creating the size and shape of the blades.

I loved every moment of the learning process and now I am hooked! I love seeing my hand-painted/printed papers come to life --- flying gracefully with the slightest movement of air. My imagination is in overdrive and I'm always dreaming of creative adaptations!

When I saw what Maggie was making I felt Euphoric!

I want one, I need one, so I made one!

At first it was a Hand Therapy thing with the question “can I do this?”. So embracing the experience of making the hand painted rice paper, the vanes were more of a trial but once I engaged my brain to the hand it was ok. (Recovering from a stroke)

I just loved the whole process - it’s easy to do, well relatively with the right tools and hand coordination.
Maggie’s instructions were easy to follow and she is always there if I get stuck. I got that excited that I went on a trip and visited friends with my vanes already made up and installed half made Mobiles when I got there! The wonderful thing is I now will go and visit my dear friends again and finish them off!!

I saw the mobiles Maggie was making during lockdown, and was intrigued by their gentle beauty. When Maggie released her online class for this project, I jumped at the chance to have a go myself.

Maggie’s videos take you step-by-step through all the different parts of the process from selecting papers and wire, to how to make the vanes and finally connecting it all together. I binge-watched all the videos first to get an overall idea of the whole process and then went back and worked through each part.
I really liked that I could dip in and out of the videos to the sections I needed to, when I wanted.

The overall process of making a mobile draws on a range of skills, but don’t worry if you’ve never done any wire work or painting, Maggie explains things clearly so you can pick it up easily.
Being part of the Facebook group is also a great way to ask questions and share ideas with others.

I’ve made 2 mobiles so far and am now thinking about my next one. That’s what I like about this process; you can make paper when you’re in the mood or make your vanes if that’s what you feel like doing.

Making Mobiles is such a fun course!
I found Maggie's instructions easy to follow. The course provides very detailed instructions on which materials to use right through to completion of your mobile. I'm so thrilled with the mobiles I've made. I'm now on my third mobile so be warned it's rather addictive and you won't be able to stop at just making one!
